(A hopefully) More finalised script

  • -Noodle trouble -             By: Ken. Kim

-Opening-

Int. Bedroom- morning

Light shines through an open window and stops on the rumpled bed sheets of the character; Maddison.

*in a few seconds, an alarm clock starts ringing on the small table next to her bed*

-the camera picks up a hand as it comes flying and slaps the alarm clock’s snooze button-

With a yawn Maddison sits up on her bed and rubs her eyes

*her hair is messy like any normal person*

she makes her way to a small dresser where she plops down and brushes out her hair lazily. then the camera stays as she moves away hiding her from view.

*her pyjamas fly past as she gets changed*

  • She comes back into view normally clothed with her braid done up -

Act 1

Int. hallway and kitchen- morning

She makes her way through a small hall where the camera picks up Maddi as she pauses briefly and picks up a small picture (with her and her father when she was a toddler) before smiling and putting the picture back in place tenderly.

she enters a small kitchen with dirty plates (showing she’s quite neglectful of her hygiene..)

*The camera follows her around as she gathers a pot from the cupboard and a large bowl of instant noodles with the assorted light-weight, wooden chopsticks.

She turns on the tap and gets some water in the pot before placing it on the element.

*Clicking her fingers, she conjures a small flame and puts it beneath the pot and before too long the water is bubbling away*

As she watches the water boil, A large framed picture of her father and mother hanged over the kitchen side catch her attention as she looks at the mother she never quite knew and the father who was taken from her far too early. Her mother had beautiful auburn hair flown behind her shoulders and tender blue eyes. As for her father, Maddison still remembered a lot of his features such as the slight sparkle of mischief he showed as he grinned at her or the way he used to move when he used to take her for those long walks down the citadel park. People say her mother looked just like Maddi when she was younger but no matter how hard Maddison looked, she could just never quite see it.

-looking at her mother was something Maddison actually did quite frequently as she tried to envision what it could have been like if her family had stayed whole and then this would only welcome her forlorn mood so Maddi usually tries to stay away from staring at the picture for too long-

Sighing, she proceeds to peel open the bowls lid half way and pours in the hot water; gets the chopsticks and puts them on the lid.

*Noodle lid creeps open and chopsticks roll onto the table*

Act 2

Int. Kitchen- morning

Maddison looks at the bowl emptily; still enveloped in her own thoughts then places the chopsticks back on top.

*noodle lid comes back open once again accompanied by the light sound of the chopsticks falling back to the table*

Somewhat annoyed now, Maddi firmly places the chopsticks back on but within a few seconds the lid flicks back open.

Curiously, Maddi stares at the bowl of noodles and cautiously places the chopsticks back on top.

*Flick*

The noodle lid flicks the chopsticks harder this time actually managing to get one of them to drop to the ground.

*Maddi bends down and snatches the chopstick off the ground*

Now quite angrily Maddison places the chopsticks back on the lid but as lid tries to flick open, she harshly forces it back down and the lid retaliates by flicking back open.

*This process repeats a few times*

Maddi glares down at the bowl of noodles intensely.

*All the while, the precious heat thats supposed to cook the noodles steams away from the open lid*

Maddison places the chopsticks back onto the bowl but as the lid stubbornly flicks back open, this time, the chopsticks fly and stab into the ceiling.

*she lets out a growl of frustration, suddenly her face lights up as she comes up with a new idea and she walks out of the room only to  comes back with an immensely large text book and slams it onto of the noodles and smiles triumphantly.

But just as she finally settles back down into the chair, the lid flings open and sends the text book flying into Maddi’s face. Almost comically, the text book slips off her face as her expression slowly turns from frustration to just outright anger.

Act 3

Int. Kitchen, outside Maddi’s house- morning

She runs out of the room and comes back with her knapsack where Maddi then  proceeds to pull out several items including three more large textbooks, a lacrima orb and a pouch of her collectable bottle caps before retrieving the chopsticks off the ceiling only to slam everything down on the bowl.

*lid actually stays closed this time*

Maddi’s eyes light up in hope as she keeps her eyes on the noodles.

-Moment of tenseness-

*Lid flicks open and everything fly off before one of the text books smashes into Maddi’s ribs; winding her and as she falls back, her pouch of collectable bottle caps falls on her face, spraying them everywhere.

-Something snaps inside of her-

With a death roar, Maddison leaps up and conjures a large flame in her hands before blowing it into the table.

*camera is outside her house as smoke shoots out Maddi’s open window accompanied by the sound of an explosion*

Camera goes back inside and Maddi is sitting in the middle of a charred kitchen.

-By this time she is breathless and flustered-

She looks around and her eyes fall back to the framed picture of her parents. Her face turns shocked when she sees the bowl of noodles slapped onto her father’s face slowly dripping down. Eventually the bowl slides off enough so that maddi can see her father who's handsome features now had noodles clinging all around him.

-She gets up and removes the bowl and stares at her father-

*She bursts out laughing*

Maddi: “I guess nothings changed much has it dad”.

BDM 126 - Entry 6

Movie review: Avatar

For my weekly movie review I chose to study 'Avatar' directed by James Cameron (He was also the writer, co-editor and co-producer). He first came up with the concept of this film sometime in 1994 and was supposed to be real eased in 1999 shortly after Cameron's hit release 'Titanic' but he deemed the technology not developed enough for the world he wanted to create and so its actual development started in 2006 and was released in late 2009.

The concept side of the film was seriously amazing with a lot of breath-taking scenes. I'd probably say that avatar is highly influenced off of tropical amazon rain forests.

Avatar was nominated for nine academy awards including best picture and won three prizes for 'best art direction' as well as best cinematography and 'best visual effects'. overall, it was a great success.

BDM 126- entry 5

Movie review - How to train your dragon

As my weekly movie review, I chose to study 'How to train your dragon' directed by Chris Sanders and Dean deblois. It was produced by dream works animation loosely based off a british novel written by an author called Cressida Cowell.

The art style for this movie is actually extremely interesting to me as its just so different, especially the concept side of the productions. As I will show an example below. The theme is strongly influenced by the celtic and nordic cultures with the style of layout, buildings, character designs and even the chosen accents.

How to train your dragon was actually nominated for academy award for the best animated feature and best original score at the 83rd academy awards. It won 10 annie awards including the best animated feature award.

Personally, I actually love this movie and I even teared up in the latest release 'how to train your dragon 2'. Its characters are flawless, the animations are flawless, the settings and moods are flawless just everything about this movie was extremely appealing to me but to be fair, its a movie where vikings fight dragon and even end up riding them. Thats just about as good as things get, right? ...

Character biography

Character Biography - Maddison Lilith Stormbringer

*Note

The world my protagonist lives in as one torn apart by war. Rebellions across the entire kingdom is underway as the people thirst for change. They had currently just finished a massive war but the cities already had begun to charge taxes and harshly enforced their laws making the already broke people spiteful. When they began taking up arms, one man arose to lead them in the name of justice and order but he had never intended to do it for them. merely for himself. Blinded by hunger and fuelled by hate, the rebellions began anew. (You will hear of this organisation quite a few times in this but just keep in mind that L.R.R.H is just a agency of mages that take on various jobs from the Citadel (the city they live in) and other cities across the nation. They are split into three branches; the political leaders, the councillors. The military leaders; the Druids and the religious leaders; the shrolotaighya)

Since birth, Maddison’s life was a tale of tragedy and loss. Her mother; Serah unfortunately passed away as she gave birth to Maddison on the dawn of the 31st rising sun in the Citadel. Her father; Keivan was a powerful druid (military leader) in the ranks of L.R.R.H’s finest magicians and even though his occupation demanded the utmost of his attention and time, he’d always make exceptions for his baby girl whom he’d named Maddison Lilith (her mother’s maiden name) Stormbringer and although their times together were brief, Anyone could feel the loving bond between father and daughter.

At the tender age of five, Maddison was once again forced to experience loss as her father was called out on an immensely dangerous quest where he spend two whole months literally fighting to settle a war between misguided rebel forces and the soldiers of Farahneer (a large city west of the citadel) but in an unfortunate turn of events, Maddison’s father was cut down in the heat of battle.

When the news of Keivan’s death reached the citadel, everyone was struck was terrible grief and pity at the passing of such a beloved friend and colleague. The head of the priests of Shrolotaighya; Minastuq who was one of Keivan’s most closest friends adopted the newly orphaned Maddison and vowed to raise her as one of their own. And so he did.

Maddison grew up with Minastuq’s only child, Elle; who was to inherit the mantle and become head of the shrolotaighya and everyone around them watched lovingly as the two girls grew under the loving care of the head family.

Yaksut (Elle’s uncle) was not a member of the Shrolotaighya but a wanderer that would quite frequently visit the village and bring stories of his adventures to the wide- eyed children of the village and he was known as one of the most strongest pyromancer in recorded history. One of Yaksut’s biggest fans was Maddison herself and upon request, Yaksut used to tell her hundreds of stories from dawn till dusk of his strifes and Maddison never seemed to get enough. Stories of Yaksut fighting horrendous river monsters, fleeing from hordes of cave goblins, climbing long lost structures to find rare artefacts and exploring to his hearts content was nothing short but magical to Maddi.

When Maddison reached ten, Yaksut decided to settle down and came to the village and bought a little hut near to Minastuq’s house. By this time, Maddison was well into her studies at Dengala: the institute of magic and sorcery. One word? She was horrible at almost any type of magic. She couldn’t materialise a single illusion, summon any of the simplest creatures, hex a mannequin to save her life or even raise any of her physical capabilities. In the eyes of others, Maddison was a disgrace and whilst Maddison struggled to conjure a puff of smoke, Elle sheared through her studies with ease and advanced at astonishing speed till at last she settled at two years ahead of her age level (Which vexed Maddison more than anything).

She would spend entire afternoons crying out her problems to Yaksut who sat there and listened attentively to everything and nodded his head comfortingly but one day when Maddison came to Yaksut’s hut, he had made a decision. Taking Maddi’s hand, he led her out into a small meadow where he basically explained to her that he would become her tutor. And since then, Maddison has trained hard under Yaksut’s vigurous drills where she learned that her talents lay not with such complicated spells but with a simple manipulation trick that was not taught at the institute as they considered it to be too dangerous.

But one slight hick came up because not only did Maddison learn the incredible arts of fire wielding from Yaksut, she also accidentally took on his habit. The one thing he was infamous for; drinking. Minastuq became quite concerned over the strong influence Yaksut had over Maddison but seeing her so happy was all he needed to know and he let her be.

When Maddison hit 18, a serious change happened. Minastuq steeped down as the sky priest and Elle became the head of the Shrolotaighya and spoke on behalf of their people amongst the council but that wasn’t all. Maddison had finally qualified to enter the ranks of the L.R.R.H and earned the codename; agent Crimson. Due to her talents as a powerful fire wielder, she climbed the ranks of apprentice steadily but her happiness shattered when her uncle passed away. For several long months, Maddison grieved for her lost uncle and to mask her sadness, she began to drink more and more until she became sneered at by her L.R.R.H colleagues. She started receiving less missions, spent most of her time drinking in taverns or getting into drunken brawls and to make matters worse, even her foster family became grimly unsure of what to do with her.

All was almost lost when Elle came for Maddison and brought her out of the tavern and taught her how to channel her misery into something else; meditation. Slowly with time, Maddison returned to her usual self and everyone took a huge sigh of relief. She still has a low reputation amongst the agency but she’s now more or less back to being a hard training agent of L.R.R.H.
